Haha I have no understanding of politics I just randomly spew stuff about dead bodies and necromancy and hope people are fooled into thinking I am IC.
If you need a rundown on any of the game's history let me know! Actually why don't I just go over it briefly anyway?
There are a few countries: Sawa is to the northwest and the Nameless States are to the southwest. They are generally more sane and laidback than the others. Britain and Rome are to the northeast and are ruled by F/SN people - Arturia, Arthur and Nero. The two kingdoms bordering the Rift are Amestris to the west and Zeon across the ocean with the islands to the east. Both are manipulative and pragmatic and tend to do not so morally conscionable things. Roswell is currently in a loose alliance of sorts with Char Aznable of Zeon. I've placed the Verlaine Hills to the far west, between Sawa and the Nameless States.
Currently, there are a few big plots going on in-game. -The Holy Grail War is ongoing, and involves a lot of characters that have nothing to do with F/SN. Actually, I don't think a single F/SN character is an actual Servant. They will be duking it out amongst themselves in subsequent days. -Spring Court has just begun. The end of Spring Court will see the conclusion of Act 1, and drastic changes in power. -The heir to the Emperor, Arthas Menethril (something like that), has gone off the deep end after getting ahold of a blade called Frostmourne. His goal was originally to fight Xykon the lich, but things are getting out of hand there. -Formerly working for Zeon, a dark mage/knight called Avshar is plotting the destruction of the world or something like that. He's destroyed an NPC village called Stratholme and has just had a hand in the destruction of the summoner village of Mist. -Ongoing tension between the Beastmen and the humans have led to several uprisings. Shen, a peacock, is amassing an army of sorts to fight the church. A separate faction, Luna's Call, has claimed the territory of Lerrian for their own, though they work peaceably with humans for the sake of fighting the Rift. The goblin nations led by Redcloak have also declared a rebellion against the church. -The church and several others are currently seeking the Zodiac Stones from Final Fantasy Tactics. No one knows what they actually do yet, but rest assured they are bad news.
I think that's most of the important things. The great thing about this game is that you can put so many things into motion. I've got a lot of plans for my other character right now, Levin.
